Life-Changing Words: Books we are loving right now

Life-Changing Words: Books we are loving right now

Nothing beats curling up with a good book. Whether you are the type of person to have a bookshelf filled with books that you re-read every year, or you can’t stop yourself from buying a new book every time you walk past a bookstore (who can’t resist a pretty book cover at Dymocks?!), books are the ultimate source of life-changing words. And at Hunt & Co., we can’t get enough of them!

As a team, we enjoy reading, watching and learning about a wide variety of topics during our past times. But one thing we do have in common is a love of personal growth/ development and business. Truly, all you have to do is look at our company Slack channel or explore the LinkedIn activity of our team to see the emphasis we place on these areas.

And so… we have compiled a list of some of the Hunt & Co. team’s favourite books!

Written in their very own words, we hope you enjoy our team’s book recommendations for 2022:

Earth is Hiring, by Peta Kelly

I first picked up this book three years ago and it is one of my all-time favourites. The whole book is based on the ‘new way’ philosophy of living, leading, earning and giving. It takes you on a deep dive into how you can live in alignment with yourself and dig into more of your conscious purpose.

This book really is for your personal development and spiritual living humans. It just makes you think differently about everything in life. It also teaches you how to ‘unkink’ your life so that you can spend more time living in joy.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” – Peta Kelly, Earth is Hiring

Start with Why, by Simon Sinek

This book is about helping leaders become more inspired at work, which Simon says, helps colleagues and customers become more inspired. It compares leaders who have had great influence in the world and shows that they all think, act and communicate in the same way – but in a way that is different to everyone else. I can’t recommend this book enough. It is a must-read for people who aspire to be great leaders.

“And it all starts with WHY.” – Simon Sinek, Start with Why

The Moment of Lift, by Melinda Gates

I bought my copy probably about two to three years ago now and I have read it twice now. It is one of those books I imagine I will go back to again and again and take different pieces of insights as I progress through different life stages.

Before I bought this book I ashamedly did not know much about Melinda Gates. The things I knew about her could be counted on one hand. And, in all honesty, I bought this book a little sceptical that it was going to be centred around Melinda Gates and profiling the work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

And while, yes, there are parts of that, it is really a book that is about so much more. There were parts of the book that I cried, other parts I had to put the book down and walk away because it was heavy and confronting and I even laughed in other sections. I love that Melinda has used her platform to share parts of her own story, yes, but more importantly, to shine a light on the women she has met from all corners of the world and their stories.

“When you lift up women, you lift up humanity.” – Melinda Gates, The Moment of Lift

“As women gain rights, families flourish, and so do societies. That connection is built on a simple truth: Whenever you include a group that’s been excluded, you benefit everyone. And when you’re working globally to include women and girls, who are half of every population, you’re working to benefit all members of every community. Gender equity lifts everyone. Women’s rights and society’s health and wealth rise together.” – Melinda Gates, The Moment of Lift

“Nothing sharpens my focus like a mistake.” – Melinda Gates, The Moment of Lift

Cult Status, by Tim Duggan

I just finished reading it and it was a real page-turner!

Cult Status is all about what it takes to create a brand with (you guessed it) cult status. Tim Duggan is a co-founder of Junkee, so he knows his stuff! The best thing about Cult Status is that it takes a deep dive into brands you already know and love (think Go-To Skincare, Shameless Media and Outland Denim). Not only is this book super interesting but it also takes you through a practical step-by-step guide as to how to implement the insights that the book has. Did I mention there’s an additional workbook?! If you love business, if you’re an entrepreneur at heart or if you just love to know how the sausage is made, this is the book for you!

“You’ve got a decision to make do you want to be a run of the mill business that just exists or do you want to aim for something higher.” – Tim Duggan, Cult Status

The Resilience Project, by Hugh Van Cuylenburg

I just finished reading it last month and I love this book for many reasons. It gets you to look intrinsically and ask, “am I truly happy, am I materialistic and do I give back?” It teaches you about Gratitude, Empathy & Mindfulness (GEM). And if one practices GEM daily, how there is a drastic change in how happy one becomes and that giving to other people in return fills your own cup up.

This practice gets you to write down three things you are grateful for daily and over time, change your mindset. I 10/10 recommend this book.

“There are three things that instantly promote a positive shift in our emotional state: music, exercise and laughter.

We hope you loved these book recommendations! The Hunt and Co. team will definitely be book-swapping after this and adding to their ‘to-read’ list!
