Life-Changing Connections with Emma Crudgington | A match made in SaaS sales heaven
Something that is very important to us at Hunt & Co. is sharing the career stories and journeys of the life-changing connections our team make every day. After all, no two career paths are ever the same. Welcome to another Hunt & Co.’s #LifeChangingConnections feature with Business Development Manager, Emma Crudgington.
Emma Crudgington is a passionate and self-confessed nerd with a background working in national recruitment, both in an internal capacity and consulting. She is also an avid gamer with a love of all things tech, cryptocurrency and health and wellbeing. So in September 2021 when a Hunt & Co. team member approached Emma with an opportunity to combine these passions with her superstar skills in sales, it was a match made in heaven!
After one single interview with corporate wellness challenge platform PUML Better Health (a gamified health and wellbeing app designed to reward members for getting fit), an offer was made and she accepted. The entire process took two weeks in total. Now Emma is her own boss running her own tech company while working for PUML as a Business Development Manager (BDM) and being mentored by PUML Founder and CEO, Damien King.
A couple of months into her new role and absolutely thriving, we were thrilled to talk to Emma about her experience with Hunt & Co., PUML, her career in tech and advice for others looking for a new role.
Tell us, how did you end up working in this industry (SaaS sales)?
My background is HR + recruitment, but my passion has always been technology. Since I can remember, I’ve played video games and also worked with the family business developing websites in exchange for pocket money! I think the mix of my people skills and love for the industry made sales a natural way for me to transition my career.
How did you end up in your current role?
Benjamin from Hunt & Co. reached out to me through LinkedIn with such an amazing opportunity with the team at PUML. I had just finished the development of my own app (literally the day before) and it seemed like the stars aligned with the timing and scope of the opportunity. I am so thankful that Benjamin took a chance on calling me and didn’t see my profile as ‘just a recruiter’.
What is it about your current role that made you transition?
Definitely the opportunity to transition from a corporate work environment to a start-up in the area that I was genuinely passionate about.
How did you enjoy your experience overall working with Hunt & Co.?
Being a recruiter, I naturally had high expectations of being approached by another agency. However, I was so pleasantly surprised at the process run by the wider team. The communication level was on point, I felt heard about what I wanted in an opportunity and everyone I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with has been fantastic.
What is the best career advice you have ever received?
Every business, product or process started off as an idea. If you have something that you think is worth pursuing – do it.
What is one tip or word of advice you would give to someone looking for a new role?
Self-awareness and direction are key. Make sure you know who you are, your strengths and ultimately where you want to be in the future. If there is a skill gap, find a way to bridge it.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about your role?
My goal is always to provide genuine value to an organisation with a product solution – not to just ‘sell you stuff’.
What is a new technology trend or product that excites you and why?
NFT’s, especially after Facebook’s commitment to the metaverse. They are the way of the future and there are so many different values and applications.
Why should everyone give your company’s product, PUML a try?
It’s a genuinely fun way to track and then gamify your health and wellbeing. Our users are being paid coins to walk, meditate and even sleep with some awesome products like Apple watches, exercise equipment and charity donations available on our always-growing marketplace.
We also work with individual companies to provide complete corporate wellbeing solutions with a fantastic engagement rate. We have a huge range of pre-built programs available but what we really love is working with our clients to find out what their pain points are then coming up with a personalised program. Our solution is always backed by data and accessible to everyone.
