Q&A with our new Account Manager (Digital Marketing & Communications), Dimity Edwards
Dimity Edwards is our newest Digital Marketing & Communications Account Manager here at Hunt & Co.. With extensive industry experience across marketing, communications and personal development (including running her own podcast!), we are so excited to have Dimity join the ‘Marketing Desk’. We sat down with Dimity on her very first day for a fun Q&A so you too can get to know her a little better!
But before we jump in, you can connect with Dimity via LinkedIn or follow Hunt & Co. on Facebook and Instagram.
So here it is, our Q&A with Dimity…
Welcome to the team! We are so thrilled to have you on board. So tell us, what were you doing before you joined us at Hunt & Co.?
Before starting with Hunt & Co, I was doing a whole lot! Primarily working full-time as the communication specialist at a tech company in Brisbane.
How did you end up working at Hunt & Co.?
Extremely randomly. I never expected this would be the next step in my career, but after seeing the team live in action multiple times when the opportunity came, it was a no brainer to join.
What are you most excited about now that you are part of the Hunt & Co. team?
After doing many different roles within different industries, I have come to learn what I really love to do each day.
It boils down to the people I work with and my job satisfaction. I am most excited that I will be gaining both with the Hunt & Co. team!
Dimity, we have obviously done a little introduction before this to say who you are, but in your own words… who is Dimity?
Dimity is like your modern-day spiritual goddess and ‘boss babe’ remix. I am deeply passionate about discovering everything that the world has to offer and how each person plays their role in it.
What are you currently watching/reading/listening to?
Watching The Bold Type, Younger and rewatching Gossip Girl.
Reading ‘Meet Your Soul’ and ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’.
Listening to whatever feels good at the moment!
What’s your most recommended Marketing & Communications resource?
Hands down, my number one recommendation would be to read This Is Marketing by Seth Godin.
There’s plenty of great podcasts from PayDay With Rayray, The Chris Harder Show and Brandfetti!
What is something that not many people know about you?
The thing that most people are shocked by is how much I have travelled and how much I have been able to squeeze into my short 26-year-old life. I have travelled to 75+ countries which has allowed me to experience some incredible adventures.
What made you want to pursue a career in recruitment?
Firstly, a complete change and secondly, the excitement to connect good people with great opportunities. There is a need for the change in narrative for young people looking for their early career opportunities and I am excited to play a role.
After owning several Marketing & Communications roles throughout your career as well as starting your own podcast, what steered you towards joining a recruitment agency like Hunt & Co.?
I remember when I first was starting to look for positions once I had finished my university degree and it was HARD. I didn’t have enough ‘experience’ and was left overlooked on so many opportunities I know I would have crushed.
By joining a recruitment agency like Hunt & Co., I am excited to be able to connect with good people no matter skill level, age, sex or race and place them within awesome opportunities that light their soul on fire!
Going from being a marketing professional to now helping businesses find marketing talent, what excites you about recruitment?
I feel like I am most excited about getting a bird’s eye view of everything that is happening within Marketing.
I have such a deep passion for it and know how critical great marketers are to companies of the modern business world.
What do you think are your biggest learnings/takeaways from your career in Marketing & Communications?
One of the biggest learnings has been that if you can market yourself right (and back it with skills), the sky really is unlimited to you. And it all starts with your personal brand.
What do you think you’ll be able to transfer from your previous roles into your new role as an Account Manager (Digital Marketing & Communications) at Hunt & Co.?
Being able to communicate to clients and candidates effectively. Create engaging content. Project management and staying on top of lots of spinning plates. Plus, the ability to connect and network with people from all sorts of backgrounds.
Coming into a post-COVID world, what trends are you expecting to see in your space?
I am expecting to see more people realising that marketing isn’t just posting on social media and expecting an ROI. I expect to see a lot more attention and focus on well-rounded marketers.
What advice do you have for job hunters seeking a new role in the new financial year?
Don’t be afraid to go outside the ‘bubble’ of your experience. Do some research and understand what your skills sets are and base your applications on that, rather than just the ‘job title’.
What Marketing & Communication trends are most exciting to you at the moment?
Excited to see more multi-dimensional marketing campaigns. People are getting smart and ‘old marketing tricks’ don’t sit well. Transparency is the new black and companies that nail that will succeed.
Finally, what are some of your favourite things to do around Brisbane when not at work?
Being so new to Brissy, there is so much I am yet to explore! However, I do love Eat Street and walking along South Bank on a sunny morning with a coffee.
Any last words?
Stay groovy.
