Q&A with our Recruitment & Marketing Coordinator, Victoria Watson
Victoria Watson has recently joined Hunt & Co. as our Recruitment & Marketing Coordinator! Having recently graduated with a Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Creative Industries, Victoria brings a wave of new ideas, enthusiasm and energy to the team, and is excited to support both the recruitment and marketing functions here at Hunt & Co. We sat down with Victoria for a quick Q&A so you can get to know her a little better!
So here it is, our Q&A with Victoria…
Welcome to the team! We are so thrilled to have you on board. So tell us, what were you doing before you joined us at Hunt & Co.?
Before Hunt & Co., I was studying a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Fashion Communication) at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), while also working in retail where you could find me helping customers and folding a whole heap of shirts!
How did you end up working at Hunt & Co.?
A friend of mine connected me with Elise Le-Galloudec (Marketing & Admin Manager at Hunt & Co.) to reach out about a casual marketing position at Hunt & Co.. I had recently just graduated and was looking for an opportunity to gain some experience and knew this was my chance. So I reached out, completed a copywriting test, had an interview and became a part of the Hunt & Co. team as a Marketing & Admin Assistant not too long later! A few hours a week turned into a few days a week, which then turned into a full-time role as the Recruitment & Marketing Coordinator!
What are you most excited about being part of the Hunt & Co. team? What are you loving right now?
I love working with the whole team. My role is exciting in the sense I get to help out with all things marketing but I also get to help out the recruiters too! I am also loving being a part of Hunt & Co.’s sister-company Women in Digital, helping out with events and Women in Digital Awards.
I was also a BIG fan of fun company initiatives like Bikkie Tuesday, Chippie Tuesday and most recently, Choccie Tuesday!
In your own words… who is Victoria?
I am positive. I love helping others. I am organised and try to anticipate what’s going to happen so I can be as prepared as possible!
What are you currently watching/reading/listening to?
Watching: Currently re-watching my favs, McLeod’s Daughters and New Girl
Reading: Where The Crawdads Sing
Listening: I always have Lizzo, Harry Styles, One Direction, and Taylor Swift on repeat!
Do you have a recommended resource for staying organised or perhaps a life-changing life hack (or both)?
I love handwriting my to-do list, so I can tick it off as I go. It definitely keeps me organised and allows me to reflect on what I accomplished at the end of each day.
My life-changing life hack is the Hot Girl Walk (thanks TikTok). For those that aren’t sure what it is you basically go for a walk (with a good playlist) and you can only think about the following:
- What am I grateful for?
- What are my goals?
- How am I going to achieve my goals?
What is something that not many people know about you?
Probably that I was born in England and raised in Zimbabwe, before moving to Australia when I was two!
OR that I have a double-jointed thumb!
You studied a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Fashion Communication) – what made you choose that combination? What was your biggest learning?
I watched the movie Devil Wears Prada, and was quickly obsessed with VOGUE, so I went into university just doing Creative Industries (Fashion Communication) with no real plan on what I wanted to do. I was convinced to swap to a double degree after my first semester and I am so glad I did because I realised I really loved marketing. I enjoyed the mix of business and creativity with this degree combination.
It’s important to surround yourself with people who will challenge, encourage and support you! I was fortunate to make some really great friends in uni, and I definitely think if they weren’t a part of my university experience, I wouldn’t be where I am today!
What steered you towards joining a recruitment agency like Hunt & Co.?
Being a boutique recruitment agency specialising in digital roles rather than a drive-through recruitment company, you can be assured that you are talking to subject matter experts that care about you and your career which I believe is important when bringing in a third party.
What advice do you have for students on securing their first industry job?
Be open to all types of opportunities, although it might not tick all the boxes, it may still be the perfect role for you! Any experience is good experience, so don’t be afraid to try new things. You never know where it might lead you!
Right now, what is your ultimate career goal?
It’s been my goal to become a Marketing Coordinator since finishing uni so I’m just enjoying this phase in my life right now. Eventually, I’d love to become a (nicer) version of Miranda Priestly from Devil Wears Prada!
What are you most looking forward to learning in the Hunt & Co. team?
Everything! I love that my role at Hunt & Co. allows me to learn something new every day whether that be in marketing or recruitment, but I am really looking forward to taking my marketing and content skills to the next level!
What are some of your favourite things to do around Brisbane when not at work?
I love anything to do with food and friends, so hitting up fun cafes, cool restaurants and going to Eat Street. I also love going to GOMA, the movies, and the arcade (I am rather good at air hockey).
Any last words?
I am so excited to be a part of the Hunt & Co. team! Being so new in my career I am slowly building up my LinkedIn so come and connect with me there!
