UQ Leadership Team Bolstered by Hunt & Co. Recruits

As the University of Queensland’s Information Technology Services team farewelled their Deputy Director, they trepidatiously considered the options for replacement. Not only did the new Deputy Director need to have experience managing enterprise level applications and multi-million dollar budgets, they would also require exceptional people skills to balance the needs of the various departments across the university. This was by no means a small task.

After considering internal recruitment, promotion options and their teams’ network, they decided to appoint an agency that specialised in digital talent. One that could perform executive level search and give sufficient dedication to the role.

After considering their agency options, the executive team decided to exclusively appoint Hunt & Co. to the search.

With the outgoing Deputy Director truly a one-of-a-kind candidate, these were big shoes to fill. Fortunately the role itself provided exceptional career growth opportunities for the incumbent, making the head-hunting process much easier.

After approaching candidates from the largest organisations across Australia and seeking personal referrals from our network we were fortunate to have shortlisted eight exceptional candidates from the largest financial services, education and gaming organisations for their consideration. We are proud to note that amongst these candidates, there was diversity of gender, ethnicity, experience and age.

After an intense panel interview process the panel were split on deciding between two final candidates. The panel made their remarks and University of Queensland’s CIO was left with the unenviable task of choosing between them.

Ultimately, they chose Rowan Salt, ex. Head of Airline Technology who is now the Deputy Director of ITS. Fortunately our other candidate Kerrie Coogan had a role created for her as the Senior Manager Enterprise Applications. We see this as testament to the calibre of candidates we source, and the understanding of our client’s business; be it in the academic sector through to the world of finance.

The Hunt & Co. team is exceptionally proud of this result and are pleased to have been invited to continue recruitment with the University of Queensland’s Innovation, Teaching and Learning Department.  Click here to read more.
